Happy New Year!! I hope everybody on Drew's Team had a fantastic 2008! 2009 is shaping up to be a breakout year for Drew's Team with the possibility of Texas Hold'em tournaments at Rockingham Park and a brand new Pub Crawl fundraiser in Haverhill in the fall. But you can read more about that on our website as it comes about.
Drew had a great year also...managing to avoid any infections and hospitalizations! We did have a little scare with HRSA but it turned out to be negative. He's also had his occasional bouts of coughing, but nothing the doctor couldn't handle with antibiotics. All in all Drew is doing very well though.
Christmas in the Major house was truly a blast. Drew finally got the "big-boy" bike and baseball glove that he's been asking for. He's also added snowboarding to his repertoire of extreme sporting events that he participates in. He can make it all the way down our front yard and into the street without any help from Mom or Dad...except a little push. At 3 years old (he'll be 4 on April 27th), he's destined to be an athlete of some sort. Drew has many goals for 2009...he wants to learn all of his letters and numbers by sight and follow all of the house rules; he wants to learn how to sword-fight; but most of all he's committed to doing something nice for someone else at least once a month for no reason at all. I told him he's done a great job so far.
As for the rest of us, I'm knee deep in Massachusetts Dental regulations with my new job as the Director of the MassHealth Dental program and Lisa has successfully launched her new career in real estate. Colby has continued to be the model big brother and has put "teaching Drew how to sword-fight" on his list of to-do's for 2009.
Drew's Team also accomplished a few milestones in 2008. We raised over $3000 in our first St. Patrick's Day Bash and started the Drew's Team "Beat CF" Endowment Fund at Boston Children's Hospital. This fund will live on in perpetuity to provide financial assistance to the over 500 CF patients at Children's. Drew was there to present the first installment of $12,500 to Andrew Colin, the Clinical Director of the Pulmonary Medicine, on December 8th. The 2nd installment is planned to be presented in July after the 2009 Golf Tournament. The total donation of $25,000 to the fund will then be matched by the Levine Challenge which is another endowment dedicated to helping non-profit company's create their legacies through starting their own endowment funds.
So that's about it for now. Thank you for all of your support and prayers! We love you!!
Mission Control Out,
Barry, Lisa, Colby, and DREW
